Sunday Streak Snapped in Shoot-Out Loss
Posted November 5th, 2017 @ 6:27 pm

For the first time this season, the Bobcats fell on a Sunday afternoon.

Hosting the Sherwood Park Crusaders, the visitors left the Centennial Civic Centre with a 4-3 shoot-out victory.

It was the first loss in three Sunday games so far this season for the ‘Cats.

Nicholas Sanders was making his second straight start in goal since joining the the Bobcats, while Brandon Vogel was in between the pipes for Sherwood Park.

After a scoreless opening frame, the Crusaders got on the board first early in the second period.

Dylan Stewart directed a bouncing puck past Sanders.

The Bobcats replied quickly though on the power-play. A tic-tac-toe play from Zach Webb to Kobe Walker to Zach Kaiser set up Kaiser to put the Bobcats back on even ground.

Despite tying the game 1-1, Lloydminster was unable to find the go-ahead goal, instead the Crusaders opened up a two goal lead on back-to-back goals from Ryan Cox and Brandon Wallis.

Just before the middle frame expired, the Bobcats were able to trim the deficit down to one goal.

Zach Webb found the back of the net with just 22 seconds left to play in the second period.

The momentum of Webb’s goal carried through the intermission, as Kobe Walker tied the game 3-3 just 50 seconds into the final regulation frame.

Despite chances both ways, neither team was able to break the tie forcing 3-on-3 overtime.

During the extra session, the Crusaders were caught with too many men. Lloydminster was able to generate all kinds of offence during the 4-on-3 power-play but could not get anything by Vogel as he stopped all 7 shots he faced in overtime.

In the shoot-out, Ty Readman and Ryan Cox both beat Sanders, while Rob Johnson was the only Bobcat to score leading to the Crusaders victory.

The Bobcats outshot the Crusaders 38-35 in the game.

On the power-play, the Bobcats finished 1 for 5, while Sherwood Park went 0-3.

Next up for the ‘Cats is a trip to Bonnyville on Tuesday for a date with the Pontiacs.
