Pontiacs Push Past Bobcats at RJ
Posted November 7th, 2017 @ 11:08 pm

For the second time in four days, the Bonnyville Pontiacs put up six goals on the Lloydminster Bobcats en route to their fourth straight win over the ‘Cats.

Tuesday night at the RJ Lalonde Arena, the Pontiacs used goals from five different players to roll past the Bobcats 6-1. The victory comes just days after downing Lloydminster 6-3 on Saturday.

Bonnyville, who has now defeated the Bobcats in four straight games, used their power-play to get on the board early and often.

The Pontiacs scored five power-play goals in the contest, the first of which coming just 3:52 into the game.

Zach Aston beat Bobcats goalie Pierce Diamond to get the ‘Yaks on the board.

Then on their next power-play opportunity, Bonnyville would once again convert. Midway through the opening frame, Charlie Gawlicki found the back of the net, extending the lead to 2-0.

Just 31 seconds before the first period expired, Bobby Young scored the only five-on-five goal of the game as Bonnyville carried a 3-0 lead into the first intermission.

Early in the second, the Bobcats showed signs of life. After an early penalty against the Pontiacs, Kobe Walker sniped a wrist shot over the blocker of Sandro Silvestre to pull the Bobcats within two, 3-1.

Despite some momentum created, the ‘Cats were unable to claw any closer. After weathering a couple of storms, the ‘Yaks restored their three goal lead when Gawlicki potted his second of the game, also on the power-play.

Back on the man-advantage later in the frame, Derek Brown set up PJ Marrocco, who scored his 6th goal agains the Bobcats so far this season.

With the score 5-1 after two, things began to get chippy in the third. Multiple fights broke out during the final period of regulation. A total of 18 different penalties were called during the third period, with the lone goal of the frame coming with just under four minutes to play.

Once again on the power-play, Brayden Goulet buried his third goal of the season to round out the scoring.

The ‘Yaks went on to out-shoot the Bobcats 34-27 in the game.

Lloydminster finished the game 1 for 6 on the power-play, while Bonnyville went a near perfect 5 for 6 with the man-advantage.

The Bobcats are back in action on Saturday when they return home to the Centennial Civic Centre for a date with the Grand Prairie Storm.
