Third Period Push Not Enough in Loss to Dragons
Posted December 2nd, 2018 @ 6:32 pm

A slow first forty minutes proved to be too much to overcome Sunday afternoon at the Civic Centre.

Falling behind 4-1 after two periods of play, the Lloydminster Bobcats pushed back in the third but ultimately fell 5-2 to the Drumheller Dragons.

With the win, the Dragons completed the two-game sweep of the Lloydminster Bobcats as they wrapped up their season series.

Drumheller managed to get themselves on the board first, as they broke in on an odd man rush with a back door feed finding Brady Risk who tapped the puck past Cat’s goalie Curtis Meger.

It did not take long for Lloydminster to respond though. On a power-play, Jordan Borysiuk, playing in just his second career Bobcat’s game scored his second career Bobcat’s goal. Ty Mosimann found Borysiuk on top of the crease and he tipped the pass home without issue.

Looking like we made head into the intermission deadlocked at 1-1, the Dragons had other ideas.

On a slow developing play, Brett Edwards quickly got teed-up for a one-timer and he beat Meger to give Drumheller a 2-1 lead with just 1:36 left in the opening frame.

Past the midway point of the second, Derrick Budz took advantage of a Bobcat’s turnover as he broke in freely and scored a short-handed goal on a breakaway.

Just over four minutes later, Risk scored his second of the game, this time on a power-play extending the Dragons lead to 4-1 after two periods.

Being outshot 20-10 after forty minutes, the Bobcats flipped the script in the final frame.

Nine minutes into the period, the Cats finally had a result to show for their efforts. Logan Bromhead sprung Mason Waite on a breakaway and the rookie defenceman beat Daniel Allin five-hole to pull Lloydminster within two.

However, Drumheller would go on to add a late goal to round out the scoring and win 5-2.

Lloydminster outshot the Dragons 20-4 in the third period, for a three period total of 30-24 in favour of the Cats.

Drumheller finished the game 1 for 4 on the power-play, while the Bobcats went 1 for 7.

Next up for Lloydminster is a Wednesday night home game when they host the Drayton Valley Thunder.
