Posted June 21st, 2017 @ 10:53 am

Bobcats Head Coach and General Manager Travis Clayton has announced the signing of defencemen Andrew Liwiski (Dauphin, MB) and Zach Ziegler (White City, SK) for the 2017-18 AJHL season.

Liwiski joins the Bobcats after completing his minor hockey career with the Parkland Rangers of the Manitoba Midget AAA Hockey League. The 1999-born defenceman put up great numbers this past season, posting 16 goals and 23 assists for 39 points in 39 games with the team. In his second season of midget, the 5’11”, 173 lb Liwiski had 28 points in 40 appearances.

Ziegler was another player that produced at a high level in his minor hockey career, recording 31 points in 39 games as a defenceman with the Swift Current Legionnaires of the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League in 2016-17. Another 1999-born prospect, Ziegler will follow the path of former Legionnaires Connor Odelein and Matthew Jones as he makes the jump to the Bobcats.

Quotes

Travis Clayton: “We are really excited to be adding Andrew and Zach to our back end. They both bring high skill and offence to our defensive core.”

Andrew Liwiski: “It was kind of a hard decision at first. I had been talking with other good teams in Saskatchewan and Manitoba but I feel Alberta and more specifically Lloydminster was my best option to improve as a player and compete for a championship. I’m extremely excited to be joining such a historic organization for the next three seasons, as I’ve heard nothing but great things about the Bobcats and the City of Lloydminster. I’m hoping we can continue to build and be very competitive this upcoming season.”

Zach Ziegler: “Signing in Lloydminster is what my family and I felt would be best for me and for my development as a hockey player. I think that I will have every opportunity to grow as a player and as a person, which will help me get to the next level of hockey. I’m very excited to join the Bobcats, it’s a great organization and I think we can build something really special in Lloydminster in the next couple of seasons. I can’t wait to be a part of it!”
