Bobcats Acquire Messenger from Wolverines

The Lloydminster Bobcats have announced a trade with the Whitecourt Wolverines. The Bobcats have traded ’97 defenceman Mitchell Brennan in exchange for ’96 forward Morgan Messenger and future considerations. This trade also completes the January 8th transaction between the Bobcats and the Spruce Grove Saints, involving Lukas Biensch and Taylor Lotoski.

The 19 year-old Messenger will bring some offensive punch to the Bobcats lineup. Last season with the Wolverines, Messenger accumulated 13 goals and 17 assists for 30 points in 59 games, and will look to build on those totals in his second season in the Alberta Junior Hockey League.

Prior to last year, the Barrington, Nova Scotia native played just over two seasons with the Yarmouth Mariners of the Maritime Hockey League. In 85 games with the Mariners, Messenger scored 40 times to go with 33 assists for 73 points. Messenger also has international experience, having represented Team Atlantic at the 2013 Under 17 World Hockey Challenge and Team Canada East at the 2013 World Jr. A Challenge. The centre is listed at 5’10 and 170 lbs, and has two years of junior eligibility remaining.

The Bobcats would like to thank Mitchell Brennan for his commitment to the team over the past two seasons, and wish him the best in his future.

As the road to the 2016 RBC Cup National Jr. ‘A’ Hockey Championship approaches, the Bobcats 2015-16 roster continues to take shape. As the host team, the Bobcats will be guaranteed a spot in the tournament, which will be played from May 14th-22nd, 2016 in Lloydminster.
