The Lloydminster Bobcats have acquired ’96 forward Brett Smythe from the Drayton Valley Thunder in exchange for ’95 defenceman Austin Yaremchuk and future considerations.
Smythe comes to the Bobcats in his third AJHL season, having racked up 87 points in 135 career games with the Thunder. Smythe set career highs last year with 12 goals and 32 assists for 44 points in 57 games played as an 18 year-old. This season, the St. Albert native has notched six goals and eight assists for 14 points in 20 games. Smythe is currently unable to play due to injury, but is expected to be healthy after the holiday break.
Yaremchuk was the longest-serving member of this year’s Bobcats team, and has been a valuable member of the organization, playing in 182 games over four seasons. This season, the Sherwood Park product has scored four goals and nine assists for 13 points in 26 games.
The Bobcats organization and fans would like to thank Austin Yaremchuk and his family for their significant contributions to the organization over the last four seasons, and wish him all the best in his future.
