It would be a night to remember for the Bobcats, and one to forget quickly for the visiting Grande Prairie Storm. The goals kept coming and the Storm had no answer for the wave of offense the Bobcats displayed in front of their home fans and when the dust was settled the final score was 7-0 in favour of the home team.

It would be all Bobcats early on in the first period as the shots came in a hurry at Grande Prairie’s goalie Nick Kulmanovsky. Bobcats had a goal waved off due to a high stick, but the ‘Cats kept applying the pressure and were rewarded with a goal. Tanner Dunkle slid one past a helpless Kulmanovsky to give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead, his 8th goal of the year, assists coming from Braden Crone and Mitchell Brennan. After the first period it was all Bobcats, outshooting Grande Prairie by a count of 28-8.
The good vibes continued for the Bobcats in the second period. Eric Therrien would continue the scoring thanks to a feed from Austin McDonald and Grant Baker to make it 2-0. The ‘Cats were just getting started as Nolan Yaremchuk would make it 3-0, with helpers from Cole Porter and Grant Baker. The goal scoring party would continue with a goal from Cole Porter from Nolan Yaremchuk and Lukas Biensch. Bobcats weren’t done quite just yet as Tanner Dunkle would finish off his second goal of the night from Bryce Woodward and Braden Crone for good measure to put the Grande Prairie Storm in a big hole. Bobcats headed into the 3rd period with a commanding 5-0 lead.
Much like the entire game, the third period went in the ‘Cats favour. Austin McDonald would snap in his 7th goal of the season, assists from River Beattie and Taylor Mulder. Austin McDonald wouldn’t be done just yet as he added a powerplay goal, helpers from Grant Baker and Bryce Woodward to make it 7-0. That would be the final score on the night as the Bobcats dominated from start to finish.
Coach/GM Garry VanHereweghe was very happy about his team’s effort tonight, “The guys who went to the net were rewarded, and I think as a result of that more guys will be doing that. All in all, it was a very good game structurally and system wise.”
Devin Green earned his first shut-out of the season, while Austin McDonald and Grant Baker collected 3 points on the night. 5 other players also recorded multipoint games.
With the win the Bobcats are now 11-7-1, only 3 points behind the 3rd place Whitecourt Wolverines. The Bobcats and Storm go right back at it again on Saturday night at the Centennial Civic Centre at 7:30 PM.
