Bobcats Bombarded by Wolverines

It was a rough night for the Lloydminster Bobcats Friday night at the Scott Safety Centre in Whitecourt.

From start to finish, the Bobcats were unable to get much rolling, meanwhile, the home team came out flying.

The Wolverines created numerous chances early in the game, but didn’t have much to show for it.

Bobcats goalie Pierce Diamond made save after save in the early going, until Jaedon Leslie knocked a puck out of mid-air and into the back of the net to give Whitecourt a 1-0 lead after one period of play.

In the second, the flood gates opened. Despite Diamond’s best efforts, the Wolverines exploded for three goals in a 47 second span.

With the Whitecourt advantage at 4-0, Bobcat’s HC/GM pulled Diamond in favour of ‘AP’ Jacob Bennett, however, not much changed.

The Wolverines piled on with three more goals before the period expired, taking a 7-0 lead into the second intermission.

In the third, the Wolverines would add one more to round out the scoring.

Diamond made 20 saves on 24 shots, with Bennett stopping 13 of the 17 shots he faced. Wolverine’s goalie Xavier Potvin turned aside all 19 shots he faced in his second straight shut-out against Lloydminster.

The Bobcats have now been shut-out in their last three road games, a trend they will look to change Saturday night in Grand Prairie when they visit the Storm for the first time this season.
