Bobcats Fall to Saints in Final Home Contest of 2018/19 Season

Playing in their final home game of the 2018/19 regular season, the Lloydminster Bobcats were unable to find much of an answer for the Spruce Grove Saints Saturday night at the Centennial Civic Centre.

Taking on the defending AJHL champions for the third time this month and second time this week, the Bobcats found themselves in penalty trouble which helped the Saints take control of the game with a five-goal second period.

Trailing by only a goal after one period of play despite a slow moving opening frame, the game was still completely up for grabs.

The Saints, however, used the second period and their power-play to essentially put it out of reach.

Just 20 seconds into the frame on the man-advantage, Seth Fyten found the back of the net for Spruce Grove getting a second goal past Bobcat’s netminder Cale Elder.

After assisting on the Fyten goal, former Midget ‘AAA’ Bobcat Logan Ganie netted a goal of his own a little over three minutes later to increase the Spruce Grove lead to 3-0.

Only 42 seconds after that, the Saints found the back of the net again when Alex Dalton got the puck past Elder.

The Dalton goal did however, seem to spark the Bobcats. Not even a minute later, Hunter Lamb found a loose puck of a scramble and put it past Saint’s goalie Liam McCloskey.

The Cats then jumped on a power-play shortly after, but it was later nullified after tempers began to flare and multiple penalties were called including a five-minute major for slashing and a game misconduct to Bobcat’s ‘AP’ Ben Bygrove.

Spruce Grove would strike two more times with the man-advantage before the period came to a close and they took a 6-1 lead in to the dressing room.

In the third, Logan Ganie scored his second goal of the game to round out the scoring in a 7-1 Lloydminster loss.

The Saints went on to outshoot the Cats 48-12 in the contest.

On the power-play, Spruce Grove finished 4 for 5 with the Cats going 0-5.

These two teams will now battle again on Sunday, this time from the Grant Fuhr Arena in Spruce Grove.

Puck drop is scheduled for 2:00.
