Bobcats Family Fun Run a Success

Lloydminster, AB ? The Lloydminster Bobcats held a Distance Family Fun Run Saturday May 23 to raise money for the Lloydminster Public School Division and Lloydminster Catholic School Division meal programs as well the Lloydminster Regional Health Foundation COVID-19 Frontline Relief fund. The Family Fun Run created an opportunity for families to practice social distancing while getting physical exercise during these unprecedented times while at the same time contributing money to local programs.  The programs are heavily relied on now more than ever and the Bobcats were happy to keep 100% of the proceeds local. Many prizes were donated by local sponsors and anyone who participated in the Family Fun Run had their name entered to win. Just after the announcement for the Run the first major sponsor jumped on board. The Bobcats are so grateful First Truck Centre of Lloydminster donated $500 to the schools meals programs and thank all others who donated in any way as sponsors of the event. Virtual registrations started to come in within hours of the announcement and continued until the afternoon of the Run. With social distancing required and safety the first priority, it only made sense for the run ? walk ? or bike to take place where the participants chose.  This sort of virtual versus physical connection gave the opportunity for people of all ages from anywhere on the map to sign up to take part in the fundraising event. Bobcats players, fans, billets, sponsors, family members, teachers, coaches, youth players, so many people registered.  Social media, live video feeds and photo feedback were all part of the fun.
In total 326 registered for the event raising $3,740 total!
?It was amazing! The outpouring of support and seeing so many smiles while people took part in the fundraising event was very rewarding. Our first goal was to create a positive healthy event, to encourage all ages, wherever they were to get out and be physically active in a way that worked for each participant. Our current life experience with Covid-19, lockdowns and social isolation is something none of us have experienced so our second goal was to find a way to work together as a team to do something for our community. We believe the team of 326 registered participants working together accomplished the goals and should be proud of their achievement? said Bobcats Head Coach and General Manager Nigel Dube. The winners of the prizes will be contacted regarding delivery. The Lloydminster Bobcats entire organization would like to thank the sponsors and everyone for participating in the Family Fun Run!
