The Bobcats offence came to life Friday afternoon in Camrose at the AJHL Showcase, however, they came up just short in search of a second straight win.
Despite finding the back of the net five times, the Bobcats dropped a 6-5 decision to the South Division leading Okotoks Oilers.
The Oilers got on the board first late in the opening frame. On the power-play, Carter Huber found the back of the net with just 13 seconds left in the first.
Early in the second the Bobcats evened the score on a man-advantage of their own. Cole Johnson put home his first goal as a Bobcat to tie the score 1-1.
After the Oilers responded for a 2-1 lead, Johnson netted his second of the game just 38 seconds later to tie the game again.
Josh Baker then came in on a breakaway and scored his first goal as a Bobcat to give Lloydminster their first lead of the contest.
Just past the midway point of the second period, Rob Johnson increased the Bobcats lead to 4-2 with his second goal of the season.
However, before the Bobcats could get to the second intermission the Oilers took advantage of a couple late power-plays.
A pair of power-play goals in the final five minutes of the frame brought Okotoks back to even ground with Lloydminster after two periods of play.
The Oilers then scored early in the third and midway through the period to go up 6-4.
Bobcat’s forward Chasten Braid scored with 7:05 left in the final frame to pull Lloydminster within one, however, that would be as close as they would get.
In goal, Reese Jones made 26 saves on 32 shots for the Bobcats, while Oilers netminder Ben Howard stopped 16 of 21 shots.
The Bobcats finished the game 2 for 4 on the power-play, and Okotoks went 3 for 5.
With the loss, the Bobcats fell to 2-5 on the year, while the Oilers remained undefeated improving to 6-0.
Lloydminster will resume their schedule on Wednesday with a trip to Spruce Grove to battle the Saints.
