The Lloydminster Bobcats are proud to be partnering with the Edmonton Oil Kings and the Saskatoon Blades to host a Western Hockey League preseason game in the Border City this year. Lloydminster hockey fans will have a chance to see the Oil Kings take on the Blades in the Border Battle on Sunday, September 6th.
The Oil Kings will serve as the home team in the matchup, which is a part of the 2015-16 RBC Cup season for the Bobcats.
“This city is just hockey crazy,” said Kevin Radomski, director of business operations for the Oil Kings. “For us to bring WHL hockey and really pack this place … show me another WHL market who can do that in the preseason.”
From the other side of the border, the Blades echoed that sentiment.
“You cruise down the Yellowhead, you meet on the border and have a whole lot of fun, and leave some money behind in the community” said Steve Hogle, president of the Blades. “The Bobcats will make great hosts and we feel this is the perfect setting, right on the border, right between the two teams and we both have great roots into this community.”
Bobcat fans will see alumni Brandon Baddock on the ice with the Oil Kings as he prepares for his final year of junior hockey. The Vermilion native suited up for the Bobcats in the 2011-12 season before spending the last three years in Edmonton. A number of other Lloydminster minor hockey products will also be taking part in the game on both sides of the ice.
The game is slated for a 6 p.m. start at the Centennial Civic Centre, and it falls the weekend prior to the Bobcats regular season home opener on Saturday, September 12th versus the Bonnyville Pontiacs.
