With the 2016-17 AJHL regular season kicking off tonight, Travis Clayton and the rest of the coaching staff are confident with the 25 man roster they carry into the new campaign.
“We are going to have to be a hard working team; after intrasquad the team really started to form where we could get the chance to see the guys versus some AJHL competition. I know the team is definitely excited to get the season going,” said assistant coach Taylor Holt.
The Bobcats bolstered its lineup this past week with the addition of (’96) forward Adam Wilson from the Whitecourt Wolverines in exchange for future considerations. The 6'3'',209 pound Edmonton native spent last season in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League with the Flin Flon Bombers, registering 3 goals and 16 assists for 19 points in 44 games. Wilson began his junior career playing in the AJHL on the same Pontiacs team as Cory Santoro, another ('96) forward who was brought in this offseason to help lead the Bobcats into 2016-17.
“As a ('96) we were hoping he (Santoro) could come in and help lead the younger guys. So far he has exceeded expectation and is well liked in the dressing room. He was voted an alternate captain by his teammates this week. We expect big things from him this season,” said Clayton.
During the week Lloydminster also traded ('98) defenceman Carson Romeril to the Dauphin Kings of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League in exchange for future considerations.
