For the second straight game, the Lloydminster Bobcats found themselves behind the 8-ball in the first period.
Playing their first game at the Civic Centre in 15 days, the Bobcats fell behind the Bonnyville Pontiacs 4-0 after one, en route to an 8-1 loss.
The Pontiacs scored a pair of goals just one minute apart in the early stages of the game to jump out in front 2-0.
Midway through the frame, Lloydminster tried to cut the lead in half on the power-play but both Zach Webb and Kobe Walker found iron instead of the back of the net after getting the puck by Bonnyville goalie Justin Travis.
From that point on, the Pontiacs took over. Bonnyville scored two more goals before the opening frame expired to hold a 4-0 advantage after the first 20 minutes.
Garin Butlet, Derek Brown, Charlie Gawlicki and PJ Marrocco had the four Pontiac goals.
Bobcats netminder Pierce Diamond was relieved after the fourth goal in favour of Liam McCloskey, who made his Bobcats debut.
In the second period, Derek Brown scored his second of the night and Bobby Young also netted a goal for a 6-0 Yaks lead after two.
Bobcats forward Chasetan Braid got Lloydminster on the board in the final frame. The former Saskatoon Blade broke in on a breakaway and put a back-hand shot through the five-hole of Travis for his third goal of the season.
The Pontiacs continued to apply the pressure following Braid’s goal though.
Butler’s second of the night and a goal from Bekkam Willis rounded out the scoring as Bonnyville took care of Lloydminster 8-1.
The Bobcats will be back in action Saturday night when they host the Drayton Valley Thunder at the Civic Centre beginning at 7:30pm.
