The Bobcats offence did not start the season along with the back end. While the Cats had kept every game close and were allowing very little against, they couldn’t seem to bulge twine with any consistency.
They curbed that Wednesday in Camrose when they came away with 5 goals in their victory. Friday they’d have the chance to show they could do it in back to back games against the AJHLs newest club the Devon Xtreme.
Consistency they needed and consistency they found. Friday night 5 different Bobcats were able to capitalize during a dominant evening at the CCC. McAllister, Yule, Nardelli and El-Tahhan all tallied before Wiltsie found an empty net with 47 seconds to play. Finalizing a 5-3 victory.
Though they came out with a win the home side looked tired. The Bobcats have played more games than any other team in the league (to this point), and logged some significant miles over the 6 days prior. So if fatigue was setting in one would not be shocked. One could be concerned though as the Bobcats were set to face their regional rivals from Bonnyville Saturday night.
The Pontiacs and Bobcats have sat very similar in the standings with the Cats having beaten the Yaks twice this season. That only serves to leaves the Yaks more rested and hungry for redemption.
It looked as though that was exactly what would happen. The Pontiacs owned the first period in physical play, chances, and production. They lead the Bobcats 2-1 after 20 minutes.
The second period however turned the tide. First Matthew Hikida scored on a quick shot from the right side wall for his first AJHL goal. Then Kael Screpnek would notch his first AJHL goal on a feed from Wiltsie behind the net.
While that would have been enough to solidify the win Nardelli, Fritz and Fendelet would each score for added insurance.
With Saturdays win the Bobcats have gone from scoring just 21 goals in their fist 12 games to adding 16 more in their last three. Defence as mentioned has been their strong point through the first 1/4 of the season, but if the last 3 are any indicator the offence has woken from its slumber and could truly be problematic for their competition.
Cats next action will take them back to the RJ Lalonde in Bonnyville Friday night before returning home Wednesday the 30th when the Bobcats will be sporting their #teampeyton jerseys.
On-line auction for those jerseys has gone live and you can get your bids in until December 1st. Be sure to check out Bobcats social media for details.
