Lloydminster, AB – The Lloydminster Bobcats have named 20-year-old forward Caden Cabana as the Team Captain for the 2023-24 season! The native of Bonnyville, AB was acquired in January from the Spruce Grove Saints and went on to play in 23 games and scored 5 times while adding 13 assists for 18 points.
Cabana is no stranger to the Border City where he began playing in the Lloydminster Elite Hockey Division during the 2017-18 season before beginning his Alberta Junior Hockey League career in the 2020-21 season. The veteran forward has played in 87 regular season games and amassed 18 goals and 30 assists to go along with 117 penalty minutes in the league. Caden Cabana spoke to what it means to be the Captain “It’s an honor and privilege to be named captain of such a great organization and community. I am very excited for this opportunity and cannot wait for what this team has in store for this season.” Under the leadership of Cabana the Bobcats will open the regular season this weekend at home. “Caden joined our organization last season for the second half and brought a lot to the table every day on and off the ice. His continued work ethic and commitment to this community speaks volumes. Meeting back in the spring with him about leadership, he demonstrated daily this fall of the vision and values of our organization and will be a very good leader for our team” commented Bobcats General Manager Nigel Dube.
The leadership group will also include 20-year-old defenseman Ryan Redekopp and Lloydminster Native Kade Fendelet. “Both of these players know what it means to be a Bobcat and the culture established on and off the ice. It is also a leadership group we will look to add on as the season progresses!” added Dube.
The 2023-24 season will begin Friday at the Civic Centre when the Lloydminster Bobcats host the Calgary Canucks! A kid zone will be set up in the west parking lot beginning at 4:30PM which will include bouncy castles, live music, and face painting.
