Cats Blanked by Cru in Friday Night Loss

Playing their first game back from the Christmas break, the Lloydminster Bobcats did not have much luck Friday night when they hosted the Viterra North Division leading Sherwood Park Crusaders.

Now winners of nine straight games, the Crusaders defeated the Bobcats 5-0 using goals in all three period en-route to their victory.

For the Cats, they weren’t able to generate much offence early on, and unfortunately were not able to beat Carter Gylander on their higher quality chances.

Sherwood Park managed to jump out in front during the first period. Scoring a pair of goals in the opening twenty minutes, one from Garrett Clegg and one from Arjun Atwal, the Cru carried a 2-0 lead in the first intermission.

In the second frame, the Crusaders added to their lead. Streaking down the wall, Cameron Aucoin fired a laser of a wrist shot high glove side on Bobcat’s goalie Curtis Meger to make it a 3-0 score.

Then in the third, it was Nick Bowman getting in on the action. The former WHL’er found the back of the net twice in the final twenty minutes to round out the 5-0 Sherwood Park win.

The Cru went on to outshoot the Cats 41-22 in the game.

The Cats will quickly move on from Friday’s loss as they get set to host the Spruce Grove Saints on Saturday. It will be the second of three visits that the Saints will make to Lloydminster this season.

Puck drop for Saturday’s contest is set for 7:30pm.
