Lloydminster, AB – As one door closes, another opens. The City of Lloydminster is bidding farewell to the Centennial Civic Centre and decades of junior hockey memories in the Border City. Alumni from the Lancers, Blazers, and Bobcats will carry fond memories of more than 40 years of hockey in one of Western Canada’s most storied arenas. While this era comes to a close, a new chapter is about to begin.
Starting in the fall of 2025, the Lloydminster Bobcats will make their new home at the Cenovus Energy Hub, following the signing of a long-term lease agreement with the City of Lloydminster. This state-of-the-art facility will feature a 2,500-seat main arena, a second full-size indoor rink, and a third outdoor ice surface. Amenities will include a jumbotron, eight luxury suites on the upper level, and full accessibility—making it the largest and most inclusive facility of its kind in the region.
“It is sad to see the Civic go, the history and memories players and families have of their time in it will last forever, many generations have grown up lacing their skates there. With the Civic no longer being an option after this summer, it was imperative for our organization to work with the city to come to a long term, sustainable agreement to call the Cenovus Energy Hub home. There is a lot of excitement around the facility and everything it will have to offer, there is nothing like it around here when it comes to Junior A hockey!”
— Bobcats General Manager, Nigel Dube
As the Alberta Junior Hockey League prepares to drop the puck on the 2025–26 season September 19, all eyes will be on the Bobcats’ new home—poised to set the standard for junior hockey arenas in the province. With the new venue comes new opportunities, as the organization looks to elevate Border City’s presence on both provincial and national stages.
“It has been an extremely busy off-season with the planning and transition to the new facility. Our players and recruits are excited for the new facility. Our season ticket holders are very anxious to pick their new seats, they will just have to wait a bit longer. A special thanks to all of our amazing sponsors who’ve stuck with us and had patience in the change.”

With great excitement comes a sense of nostalgia. The 2025 Bobcats summer camps will mark the final events at the Civic Centre. This year’s athletes will be the last to train there, adding theirs to the long list of memories made in the historic arena. Summer Camps begin August 11, followed by Main Camp on August 29, and preseason games starting September 1. The much-anticipated 2025–26 Home Opener is set for September 19—the first official Alberta Junior Hockey League game at the Cenovus Energy Hub.
“The Lloydminster Bobcats board of directors would like to give a big thank you to City of Lloydminster and our general manager navigating this project, negotiations, and planning have been going on for around 4 years outside of the day-to-day operations. We are excited junior hockey will be able to continue in the city and the new facility.”
— Lloydminster Bobcats President, Brent Mohrbutter
The Lloydminster Bobcats have also come to agreement on continuing the Food and Beverage from the Centennial Civic Centre into the Cenovus Energy Hub.
