Bygrove Named Cliff Rose for Clothes Player of the Month for November
Lloydminster, AB – With another month complete in the schedule it’s time once again to look to the Bobcats player of the month. Every month longtime supporter of the border city hockey club Cliff Rose for Clothes rewards one Bobcat, not for their efforts on the ice but for the things they do away from the rink. For the month of November the Bobcats are proud to announce Lloydminsters own Ben Bygrove as the Bobcat player of the month.
Bygrove embodies Bobcats hockey. A fan favourite whether at the Civic or in the community. HIs hard nosed defense could not contrast his demeanor away from the rink any more than it does. Nigel Dube had plenty to say about his assistant captain. “Ben is one of the most mature and oldest young guys I’ve ever coached. You’d talk to him and probably think that he’s 40 years old in the way he handles himself in his day to day. Anytime you need something in the community he’s there, if you need a spokesperson for Lloydminster he’s there. Ben is one guy we’re really proud of in our organization for being from Lloydminster and what he does to give back to the community”.
Bygrove who has been involved in delivering warm clothes to the school divisions, multiple school visits – talking to and likely inspiring border city youth, as well as recently being involved in arranging the Give’n Goals campaign. Give’N Goals is a program partnered with Boundary Ford in Lloydminster where for every goal the Bobcats score this season Boundary Ford will donate $25 to the Lloydminster Youth Centre.
Being able to play at home in Lloydminster in front of family and friends and support this community is something that Bygrove cherishes. “Lloyd is a great hockey community. It’s great that they support Jr hockey here. It gives local kids like me an opportunity to stick around and play close to home. It’s a cliche but when you’re growing up you come to the Civic and watch the Bobcats play. I always said to my parents how growing up you thought these guys were grown men and now I’m playing at this level and have little kids looking up to me, it’s really cool. The community gets around us and obviously anything we can do to give something back to the community that allows us to play in the winter is great for us and really rewarding.”
It was hard to pinpoint one thing that he’s been able to do in his tenure with the Bobcats that maybe stands out as a favorite moment, but he did key on visiting schools. “There are kids at the schools who maybe don’t have the same opportunities that some of us had growing up. It’s really cool for them because they look up to and admire us and it’s special to be able to talk to them and make their day and put a smile on their faces. We do the student of the month, where we give free tickets to a student and it’s really cool to see their smile when you get to give them tickets and they’re excited to go home and tell their parents that they get to go to a Bobcats game.
As player of the month Ben was given a gift certificate for a new suit form Cliff Rose for clothes where Dave Schneider and his team will get Bygrove fitted and looking sharp the rest of the way through the season.
