Coach VanHereweghe Back, Alumni Harris Returns

The Bobcats are pleased to confirm that Garry VanHereweghe will be back as the team’s Head Coach & General Manager for the 2014-15 season.

VanHereweghe’s return comes on the heels of a very successful turnaround season that saw the team go from a last place finish in 2012-13 to a third place finish in 2013-14 and a Game 7 playoff elimination by one of the CJHL’s top-ranked teams. VanHereweghe will return for his second season with the team following a nomination for AJHL Coach of the Year in his first season, and has 17 members of last year’s roster eligible to return for the 2014-15 season.

Moving forward, VanHereweghe will be making decisions regarding his 2014-15 hockey operations staff in the coming months. Associate Coach Kyle Tapp is stepping away from the Bobcats to pursue other hockey interests. Trainer and Equipment Manager Kim Fleming will also not be returning for the 2014-15 season. The Bobcats would like to thank both of these individuals for their commitment and success to our organization and wish them both the best of luck in their future endeavours.

The Bobcats are also excited to announce that alumni Kyle Harris will be rejoining the organization in a marketing role that will see the former assistant captain handle play-by-play duties for the Bobcats.

Harris, who graduates from NAIT’s Radio & Television Program (specializing in radio), will lead the team’s new partnership with 95.9 Lloyd FM to broadcast all Bobcats regular season and playoff games on-air through the radio station in 2014-15. The former league all-star will join the Bobcats as the team’s Marketing Director, and will be very hands-on with the team’s hockey camps, alumni programs, and community initiatives, among other tasks. Harris played 176 games collecting 133 points for the Bobcats over three seasons, and was named the team’s MVP in 2010-11 and 2011-12.
