Cru Blank Cats in Wednesday Night Contest

Unfortunately for the Lloydminster Bobcats, the late season slide continued Wednesday night at the Civic Centre.

Playing host to the Sherwood Park Crusaders, the Bobcats were blanked 3-0.

The loss extended Lloydminster’s current losing streak to six straight games after starting the month of February with a record of 3-1.

The game also marked the first time this season that the Cats were unable to find a goal in a game at the Civic.

Midway through the first period it was Dylan Stewart getting the Cru on the board with a deflection off a point-shot, which got passed Bobcat’s goalie Bailey Brkin.

Early in the second frame, Tyson Gruninger doubled Sherwood Park’s lead to 2-0 when he put home a beautiful feed from Ty Readman.

Then in the final few minutes of the third, Ryan Cox again found a way to score against Lloydminster. Cox converted on a late opportunity to extend the Cru’s lead to 3-0, while also giving him a goal in each of his seven games against Lloydminster this season.

Brkin made 34 saves on 37 shots for the Cats, while ‘AP’ goalie Ben Rishaug recorded his first career AJHL shut-out in just his second start. Rishaug stopped all 30 Lloydminster shots that he faced.

On the power-play, the Bobcats went 0 for 5 while the Crusaders finished 1 for 4.

The Bobcats will now head to Grand Prairie for games Saturday and Sunday to wrap up the regular season schedule.
