Diamond’s 46 Saves Not Enough in Loss to Whitecourt

Despite a tremendous effort form their goalie, the Lloydminster Bobcats were unable to generate any offence in a Tuesday night loss in Whitecourt.

Playing his first game in Whitecourt since being traded by the Wolverines, Pierce Diamond made 46 saves, but it wasn't enough as the Bobcats fell 3-0.

Early penalty trouble for the Cats allowed the Wolverines to generate momentum in the first period.

Although Lloydmisnter was able to kill of nearly six straight penalty minutes, the Wolverines got on the board just five seconds after a double-minor high-sticking penalty expired.

With exactly seven minutes remaining in the opening frame, Mackenzie Harden beat Diamond short-side to put Whitecourt up 1-0.

Although the Wolverines continued to heavily out-shoot the Cats, Diamond held them in, keeping the score 1-0 through two periods.

Early in the final frame though, the Wolverines would double their lead.

After the Cats were unable to convert on a 2-on-1, Whitecourt began their own 2-on-1 the other way. Spencer Bast kept the puck and fired a laser over the blocker of Diamond to make it 2-0 Wolverines.

Whitecourt would go on to round out the score with an empty-net goal with only two second remaining.

Diamond stopped 46 of the 48 shots he faced, while Xavier Potvin backstopped the Wolverines to a 20 save shutout.

The Cats finished 0 for 3 on the power-play, and Whitecourt went 0 for 5.

Next up for Lloydminster is a trip to Drayton Valley tomorrow night to battle the Thunder.
