The Lloydminster Jr. ‘A’ Bobcats are once again hosting their formal event ‘Evening of Champions’ on Thursday, September 5th, at the Lloydminster Exhibition Grounds.
As always, the event will include highly recognized NHL personnel, with former Toronto Maple Leafs, Vancouver Canucks and Anaheim Mighty Ducks General Manager, Brian Burke, and long-time Vancouver Canuck fan-favorite, Trevor Linden, both confirmed as the event’s keynote speakers.
Burke won a Stanley Cup in 2007 as GM of the Anaheim Mighty Ducks, and also led the US National hockey team to a Silver Medal as GM at the 2010 Olympics. The Lester Patrick Award recipient’s most recent stint as GM was with the Toronto Maple Leafs from 2008 to 2012, and he is currently working with the Anaheim Mighty Ducks.
Linden spent the majority of his playing career with the Vancouver Canucks, where he played over 1,000 career games and helped the team come within a game of winning the Stanley Cup in 1994. The former World Junior Champion has also been very involved with the NHLPA, being elected as President in 1998.
‘This year’s speakers are perhaps as high-profile as ever for this event,” said Bobcats Business Manager, Malcolm Radke. “Both of these icons are very well known and well respected throughout hockey and know what the game means to small town Canadian communities like Lloydminster. We are very excited to hear the stories and wisdom that these two men will share.”
In it’s ninth year, ‘Evening of Champions’ is the Bobcats’ largest annual fundraiser. The dinner event signifies the beginning of hockey season in Lloydminster. This year’s major sponsors are Investor’s Group Miles Schiller, Quik Pick Waste Disposal, Range One Oilfield, and Mike’s Oilfield Services. The evening will also includes auctions and raffles for sporting and leisure events across the continent.
