GAME DAY: Bobcats Host Thunder In Saturday Evening Contest

Looking to find their way back into the win column, the Lloydminster Bobcats (2-4-1) will take on a team they have already defeated this season when they host the Drayton Valley Thuner (2-6-0). With both teams sitting in the Viterra North Division’s bottom two spots, Saturday night’s contest is a big one for both squads as they try to work their way up the standings. All of the action can be heard starting at 7:15 with Lloydminster Bobcats Hockey on Real Country 95.9.

Heading In: Cats Drop Two Straight At Showcase

It wasn’t the results the Bobcats were looking for over the weekend in Camrose. Taking part in the AJHL’s Showcase weekend, the Cats fell 5-0 to the Calgary Mustangs on Friday, before dropping a 3-2 (SO) decision to the Canmore Eagles. Zach Kaiser and Andrew Hunt had the Bobcat’s two goals over the Showcase weekend.

Head to Head

The Bobcats and the Thunder met for the first time this season on September 25th in Drayton Valley. In a back and forth affair, the Cats would use a late goal from Tucker Scantlebury to secure a 3-2 win. That game saw both teams fire 33 shots on net, and had 17 minor penalties called. Dating back to last season, Lloydminster won five of their six games against the Thunder.

Major Move Between the Pipes

The Bobcats made some major news earlier this week, when they announced a trade involving a pair of 20-year old netminders. Swinging a deal with the SJHL’s Estevan Bruins, the Bobcats acquired goalie Curtis Meger, in exchange for goalie Nick Sanders. Meyer, who spend last season with the Prince Albert Raiders of the WHL was recently released by the team, before the Cats made a trade for him. The Regina, SK product will expect to get the bulk of the starts in goal, while 18-year old Cale Elder continues to develop.
