GAME DAY: Bobcats Look to End Homestand on Winning Note

A three-game homestand will come to an end on Saturday night when they Lloydminster Bobcats (8-32-1) play host to the Viterra South division’s Calgary Mustangs (21-14-6) Saturday night at the Centennial Civic Centre. Although the first two games of the homestand have not gone how the Cats would like, they will look to finish it on a winning not before a mid-week road trip to Whitecourt and Grande Prairie. All the action can be heard live on Real Country 95.9 beginning at 7:15.

Heading In: Borysiuk’s Fifth Not Enough in Loss to Whitecourt

Close but not quite close enough was a common theme Friday night for the Lloydminster Bobcats when they played host to the Whitecourt Wolverines. Hosting their Viterra North-division rival for the third and final time this season, the Cats dropped a 3-1 decision. In a contest that saw the debuts of three new players acquired by Lloydminster in Justin Vertesy, Andrew Smiley, and local-product Chase Anderson, the Bobcats played with energy throughout the night but found themselves on the wrong side of the inch, hitting three posts in the game. Jordan Borysiuk had the lone goal for the Cats, while Smiley picked up an assist in his debut, and Vertesi made 32 saves.

Head to Head

With these two teams meeting a Showcase, Saturday night will mark the third and final meeting of the 2018/19 season between the Bobcats and Mustangs. So far in the season series, the Mustangs have won the first two contest. They blanked the Cats at Showcase 5-0 before defeating Lloydminster in Calgary 5-3. Last season the two squads split their season series one game each.

Riding High

Saturday night, the Lloydminster Bobcats will be dealing with one of the hottest teams in the AJHL in the Calgary Mustangs. Despite the ‘Stangs dropping a 4-3 decision Friday night in Sherwood Park, they have not lost much leading up to the point. Prior to their game in the Park, Calgary had won seven in a row and eight of their last ten, with their two losses being in overtime to Brooks, and a regulation loss to Okotoks (the top two seeds in the South). The Cats will look to contain former Cat Daniel Rybarik. Traded to the Mustangs early last season, the Calgary product has four goals and four assists in four games against Lloydminster.
