GAME DAY: Bobcats Try to Slow Down Surging Oilers

After being shut-out Saturday night at the Civic Centre, the Lloydminster Bobcats (4-10-1) will look to wake up their offence Sunday when they host the surging Okotoks Oilers (9-6-1). The Bobcats have only been able to find the back of the net six times in their last twelve periods of regulation hockey, and will need to breakout of that funk if they want to slow down an Okotoks team that has won six of their last seven. You can hear all of the action live on Real Country 95.9 with the pre-game show beginning at 4:45.

Heading In: Bobcats Blanked By Wolverines

It was a game to forget Saturday night at the Civic Centre for the Lloydminster Bobcats. Playing host to the Whitecourt Wolverines in a Viterra North division match-up, the Cats were unable to get on the board as they fell 4-0 to the visitors. Local product Easton Haygarth scored the game-winner for Whitecourt, while the Cats failed to find the back of the net with any of their 24 shots. Cale Elder took the loss in goal making 24 saves on 28 shots.

Head to Head

Playing each other just two teams this season, Sunday will mark the first of those meetings between the Lloydminster Bobcats and Okotoks Oilers. Last season the Cats and Oilers met three times with Okotoks winning the season series 2-1 in three highly contested games. Okotoks defeated the Bobcats 6-5 at Showcase and 4-2 in Okotoks, before the Bobcats won 2-0 at the Civic Centre.

Cat’s PK Suffers First Struggle

Entering Saturday night’s game with the AJHL’s best penalty kill, the Lloydminster Bobcats found themselves having issues with Whitecourt’s power-play all night in their 4-0 defeat. Taking eight penalties, the Bobcats allowed the Wolverines to score three times with the man-advantage. Despite the off night, the Lloydminster penalty kill still sits second best in the league at 85.1%. Whether it’s taking less penalties or making a couple of adjustments, the Bobcats will look to off the PK back rolling Sunday against defending Viterra South Division champions.
