GAME DAY: Cats Head to Bonnyville to Battle Rival Pontiacs

Following a rare winter weekend without any games on the schedule, the Lloydminster Bobcats (9-36-1) return to action Wednesday night when they visit the rival Bonnyville Pontiacs (34-10-3) at the RJ Lalonde Arena. The Bobcats will be looking to slow down the surging Pontiacs who have won four in a row moving into first place in the Viterra North Division. All the action can be heard live on Real Country 95.9 beginning at 7:15.

Heading In: Cats Comeback Comes Up One Goal Short

Despite a strong push, a three-goal deficit was too much for the Lloydminster Bobcats to overcome Wednesday night at the Civic Centre. After spotting the Camrose Kodiaks a 3-0 lead, the Cats narrowed the gap to 3-2, but that was as close as they would get. In the defeat, Chase Anderson scored his first goal with his hometown team, while Jordan Borysiuk added his ninth of the season. Cale Elder made 28 saves in the contest.

Head to Head

Meeting for the fifth time this season, the Bonnyville Pontiacs have gotten the better of the Lloydminster Bobcats thus far. The ‘Yaks have won the previous four meetings, although some of them of come right down to the very end. Two of the games finished one goal games with the winning goal being scored in the final two minutes of regulation, while the Pontiacs won the other two contests by three goals each. These two teams will meet once more following Wednesday night’s game. That will take place in Bonnyville on March 1st.

Slow Down the Captain to Slow Down the ‘Yaks

Heading into Wednesday night’s game, the Lloydminster Bobcats will be tasked with slowing down a team that has been red-hot of late. With four straight wins over Viterra North division opponents, the Cats will try to stop Bonnyville from have that number reach five. In those four games, Pontiac’s captain Grayson Constable has been leading the way offensively during those wins with six goals and three assists in the four games. Although the Pontiacs boast plenty of offence, slowing down their captain’s torrent pace would go a long way towards securing a couple of points at the RJ.
