Coming off a heartbreaking loss to the rival Bonnyville Pontiacs on Friday night, the Lloydminster Bobcats (3-6-1) will look to bounce back Wednesday afternoon when they host the Sherwood Park Crusdaers (8-2-2) in their 2nd annual Fred North Foundation Hockey Hooky Day. The Crusaders have been one of the AJHL’s hottest teams through the first sixth of the season currently sitting in third place in the Viterra North Division. The Cats meanwhile, come into the contest 7th place in the North.
Heading In: Furious Final Few Minutes Leaves Bobcats Heartbroken in Loss to Pontiacs
A late comeback by the Lloydminster Bobcats was quickly sniffed out by the Bonnyville Pontiacs in a heartbreaking loss for the Cats Friday night at the Civic Centre. In a back and forth affair, that saw Bonnyville battle back from a pair of deficits, the Bobcats erased a late one goal lead for the Yaks, before Bonnyville responded with the game winner in the dying seconds. After Hunter Lamb tied the game 4-4 with 1:37 remaining, Isaas Saniga sunk the Cats with 27 second left, scoring his second of the game to secure a Pontiacs win.
Head to Head
So far this season, the Bobcats and Crusaders have met once, with that game taking place on Thursday during Sherwood Park’s Hockey Hooky Day. The Cats ultimately suffered a 4-2 loss at the hands of the Cru at the Sherwood Park Arena. Tucker Scantlebury and Ethan Mack had the two goals for Lloydminster in the contest.
The Civic Will be Rocking on Wednesday
With roughly 1400 students expected to be in attendance for the 2nd annual Fred North Foundation Hockey Hooky Day, there will be all kinds of noise being made within the Civic. In the 1st annual edition last year, the Bobcats were able to ride that wave of energy and noise to a 4-1 victory over the Crusaders. Looking to end a mini two-game slide, the Cats will hope the extra boost of energy from a packed house will do the trick.
