GAME DAY: Cats Look to Gain Ground on Thunder

It is a big contest Wednesday night for the Lloydminster Bobcats (7-21-1). They will play host to the hot Drayton Valley Thunder (12-16-2) with the middle of the season upon us. Currently trailing the Thunder by eleven points for the final playoff spot in the Viterra North division, the Cats will look to make up two points with a win at the Centennial Civic Centre. All the action can be heard live on Real Country 95.9 beginning at 7:15.

Heading In: Third Period Push Not Enough in Loss to Dragons

A slow first forty minutes proved to be too much to overcome Sunday afternoon at the Civic Centre. Falling behind 4-1 after two periods of play, the Lloydminster Bobcats pushed back in the third but ultimately fell 5-2 to the Drumheller Dragons. Despite being outshot 20-10 through two periods, the Cats went on to outshoot the Dragons 20-4 in the third. Jordan Borysiuk scored his second career Bobcats goal, while Mason Waite scored his fourth. With the win, the Dragons completed the two-game sweep of the Lloydminster Bobcats as they wrapped up their season series.

Head to Head

Having already squared off three times this season, the Bobcats are 2-1 against the Thunder. Lloydminster won the first two meetings by scores of 3-2 and 5-2, before Drayton Valley took the most recent meeting 3-2. Two of those three games have been played in Drayton Valley. The two teams will play two more times the rest of the season following Wednesday’s game, with both teams hosting one game each.

A Very Meaningful Midseason Contest

With all the changes for the Lloydminster Bobcats taking place November, the main focus of the team has been to begin building a winning culture. Although that may take time, the team has a chance to pull within nine points of a playoff spot with a win on Wednesday. Hosting the Drayton Valley Thunder, the Cats will get a crack at the team sitting directly on top of them. Regardless of the result, the game will serve as another building block for the Bobcats to use as they continue to build their culture and identity.
