Looking to secure back-to-back wins for the first time this season, the Lloydminster Bobcats (3-4-1) head to Sherwood Park today for an afternoon matinee with the Crusaders (6-2-2). There will be a different feel to Thursday’s game, with it getting started at 12:00pm. The game will also be the first of two in as many days for the Cats as they host the rival Bonnyville Pontiacs on Friday.
Heading In: Captain Kaiser Leads Cats Past Thunder
Heading into the Thanksgiving holiday, the Lloydminster Bobcats got the weekend rolling on the right foot, with a Saturday night victory over the Drayton Valley Thunder. Playing host to the Thunder for the first time this season, and battle Drayton Valley for the second time in as many weeks, the Cats skated away with a 5-2 win. Wearing the ‘C’ for the first time, Zach Kaiser found the back of the net twice and picked up an assist for Lloydminster, while recently acquire goalie Curtis Meger stopped 33 of 35 shots in his Bobcat’s debut.
Head to Head
Thursday’s game will be the first of six this season between the Lloydminster Bobcats and Sherwood Park Crusaders. Last season, the Cru got the better of the Cats in the season series. Sherwood Park won five of the sex contests over Lloydminster last year, with the Bobcats lone one taking place on Hockey Hooky Day at the Civic Centre. These two teams will meet for the second time this season on Wednesday when the Cats host Sherwood Park in their 2nd Annual Hockey Hooky Day.
Zach Kaiser Named Bobcat’s Captain
Third-year Lloydminster Bobcat’s forward Zach Kaiser has been named the captain for the Cats this season. A product of Orangeville, Ontario, Kaiser is the longest tenured Bobcat on the current roster having played in 127 games for Lloydminster, missing just one game in his Cats career. The 6’0, 169lbs forward led the Bobcats in goals last season and currently leads them in points, and is tied for the team lead in goals through eight games this season.
