The season continues Saturday night for the Lloydminster Bobcats (7-28-1) when they host the Spruce Grove Saints (22-13-2) at the Centennial Civic Centre. It will be the first time the Bobcats have seen the defending AJHL champions since beginning the season back on September 14 and 15. All the action can be heard live on Real Country 95.9 beginning at 7:15.
Heading In: Cats Blanked By Cru in Friday Night Loss
Playing their first game back from the Christmas break, the Lloydminster Bobcats did not have much luck Friday night when they hosted the Viterra North Division leading Sherwood Park Crusaders. Now winners of nine straight games, the Crusaders defeated the Bobcats 5-0 using goals in all three period en-route to their victory. For the Cats, they weren’t able to generate much offence early on, and unfortunately were not able to beat Carter Gylander on their higher quality chances. Curtis Meger made 36 saves for the Cats in the loss.
Head to Head
Saturday night will mark just the third time this season that the Spruce Grove Saints and the Lloydminster Bobcats will meet. The two teams began the 2018/19 season against each other but have not met since. In both of those contests, the Saints came away with victories downing the Bobcats 5-2 and 4-1. Following the game on Saturday, the Cats and Saints will not see each other again until February when they will meet three times.
Wrapping Up 2018
With what has been a crazy 2018 portion of the Lloydminster Bobcat’s schedule, the Cats will wrap up that part of the season Saturday night against Spruce Grove. In what started as a season that was not meeting expectations the organization made the move to bring in Nigel Dube as Head Coach and General Manager. With Dube now having roughly six weeks under his belt, the team will look to head into 2019 with a win against the Saints and continue to build in the New Year, as the foundation of a winning culture continues to be laid in the Border City.
