Grand Prairie ‘Storm’ Bobcats at Civic Centre

There wasn’t much that broke the way of the Lloydminster Bobcats Wednesday night at the Centennial Civic Centre.

Hosting the Grand Prairie Storm, the Storm scored early and often en route to an 8-1 victory over Lloydminster.

For the second straight night the Bobcats fell behind 2-0 after the opening period, thanks to goals from Michael Clarke and Connor Blake.

In the middle frame, the Storm continued to apply the pressure as Blake netted his second of the contest and Noah Walters found the back of the net in the final minute of the period for a 4-0 Grand Prairie lead.

While killing a penalty midway through the third period, Zach Kaiser found himself on a short-handed breakaway and was hauled down for a penalty shot.

Kaiser made no mistake on the penalty shot, firing home Lloydminster’s first goal since the third period of Friday night.

However, the Storm quickly came back and sunk all hopes of a Bobcats comeback.

Power-play goals from Jonothan Hader and Edouard Michaud and two even strength goals from Justin Bernier put the contest out of reach as the Bobcats fell 8-1.

Making his first start in goal for the Bobcats, Jakob Severson stopped 21 shots and did not stand much of a chance against the how powered Storm attack.

Grand Prairie wound up out-shooting the Bobcats 29-21 in the contest.

On special teams, the Bobcats finished 0-3 with the man advantage, while the Storm power-play went 3-6.

Next up for Lloydminster is a trip to Fort McMurray this weekend. The Bobcats will battle the Oil Barons Friday and Saturday night with both games being broadcasted live on Real Country 95.9. The broadcast will begin at 7:15pm both nights.
