Lloydminster, AB – The Lloydminster Bobcats are thrilled to announce the signing of 2006 born defenseman Murray Kanerva for the 2024-25 season! The Calgary, AB native currently plays for the Calgary Flames U18AAA where he has posted 3 goals and 14 assists to go along with 52 penalty minutes in 30 games.
Kanerva will come to the Bobcats with experience as his team competed in the 2023 Telus Cup National Tournament and both Circle K Classic Tournaments, which the prestige event is held over the holiday season. The 6’ and 180-pound defender is a player the Bobcats have had their staff on for a few years now, “Murray is a player we’ve had our eye on for the last two years. He’s a player who defends hard and can consistently move pucks away from pressure and up the ice. This season we’ve seen him develop his game on the offensive side of the puck as well. Murray is a leader for his team and embodies the character and what it means to be a Lloydminster Bobcat” commented Bobcats Director of Player Personnel Andrew Gilbert. While the Bobcats are excited to welcome Kanerva to the organization, so is Kanerva “I am extremely excited to be joining the Lloydminster Bobcats organization. I have heard great things about the town of Lloydminster and the Bobcats program. I am looking forward to the opportunity to contribute to the team as well as the community.”
Kanerva will join former teammate and current Bobcat Aidan LaRose who played on the Flames Telus Cup team. “We are excited to add a talented player like Murray who also comes with a ton of leadership and big moment experience. We believe we currently have the most depth when it comes to talent since taking over in the Border City and adding a player like Murray for the 2024-25 season is another step-in building on the foundation for years to come!” mentioned Bobcats General Manager Nigel Dube.
The Bobcats organization would like to welcome Murray and the Kanerva family to the Border City! Stay up to date on all things Bobcats by downloading the Bobcats App today and following on social media.
