Lloydminster Bobcats Sign Goaltender Carsten Leyerzapf for 2026-27 Season

Lloydminster, AB – The Lloydminster Bobcats are thrilled to announce the signing of goaltender Carsten Leyerzapf for the 2026-27 Alberta Junior Hockey League season.

The 2009-born netminder spent the 2025-26 season with the Calgary Edge in the CSSHL, where he posted an impressive 1.90 goals-against average and .963 save percentage. Leyerzapf also made his junior debut with the Bobcats as an affiliate player last season, earning his first AJHL victory in his first junior game in March.

Standing at 6-foot-3, Leyerzapf is regarded as a top young goaltending prospect. He was selected by the Wenatchee Wild in the WHL Prospects Draft and appeared in two games with the club during the 2025-26 season.

“Carsten is a big, strong, highly composed goaltender who is mature beyond his age in net,” said Lloydminster Bobcats General Manager Nigel Dube.

“As an affiliate for us last season, he had the opportunity to be around our program and get into a game situation. In his first junior game, which went all the way to a shootout, he looked like a veteran. That speaks to his character, confidence, and ability to rise to the moment. His ceiling is extremely high, and we’re excited to be part of his development pathway moving forward.”

The Lloydminster Bobcats would like to welcome Carsten and the Leyerzapf family to the Border City.
