Cats Drop Second Straight to Storm

January 7th, 2019 @ 9:25 am

For the second straight night the Grande Prairie Storm stayed hot, while the Lloydminster Bobcats were unable to keep up Sautrday night at Revolution Place.

After the two teams went back and forth to a 7-6 finish on Friday, the Storm fired home another six goals on Saturday en-route to a 6-2 win over Lloydminster.

Prior to the game, the Bobcats received bad news that starting goaltender, Curtis Meger was not going to be available for the contest. With back-up goalie, Cale Elder already out due to injury, that meants that Lloydminster product and Jr. 'B' Bandits goalie, Eric Cook was going to get his first career AJHL start.

As the game got underway Cook did not get much of a chance to settle in.

Just under five minutes into the contest, the Storm scored a pair of goals just 37 seconds apart to go up 2-0.

After the midway point of the period, Grande Prairie added to their advantage with a power-play goal.

Holding a 3-0 lead after one, the Storm continued to add on.

Again on the man-advantage the Storm made no mistake as Noah Corson scored his second goal of the game and his fifth of the weekend.

Trying to get back in the game the Cats got themselves on the board. On a power-play of their own, Jordan Borysiuk hammered home a loose puck after it had taken a strange bounce of the corner and right on to Borysiuk's stick.

However, the goal did not hold up for long.

The Grande Prairie power-play struck for the third time of the evening just two minutes after Borysiuk brought Lloydminster within three.

With the second peirod winding down and the Cats down 5-1, the team continued to try and claw back.

Only 23 seconds remained in the frame when Ryley Hogan found the back of the net for the sixth time this season.

Unfortunately for the Bobcats, Hogan's goal was as close as they would get.

The Storm would go on to tack on their fourth power-play marker of the game in the third period to round out the scoring.

Grande Prairie went on to outshoot Lloydminster 45-25 in the game.

The Storm power-play went 4 for 8, while the Cats finished 1 for 10.

Next up for Lloydminster is a three game homestand. The Bobcats will welcome Drayton Valley to the Border City on Wednesday before hosting Whitecourt on Friday and the Calgary Mustangs on Saturday.
