Saturday night saw the home side looking for redemption in the second game of the two game weekend series against the Wolverines after a 3-1 Friday night loss.
The Bobcats players hit the ice strong Saturday night with solid back and forth action against the North divisions 4th place team. After 1 the sides were deadlocked at zero with a few good chances for both clubs. Into the second it was more of the same until Wolverines captain Adam Sandstrom had a point shot wide of the goal bounce off the end wall then off the leg of Bobcat goalie Garrett Larsen and into the back of the net with some assistance from Ryan Wallz.
The home team didn’t lay down however and created chances that they simply weren’t able to capitalize on. The real story was the goalies at both ends. Larsen came away with. 31 saves and Unger at the other end would have 32 with grade A stops for both.
On Larsen coach Dube commented, “I thought he had a great game tonight. A little bounce back game for him. He wasn’t too happy about his last one. For him to come in and make some big saves and handle the puck well and even broke out for us a few times. A good complete game. The one they did get on him was a tough one. But all around a real good game and it puts the emphasis on the goaltending tandem we do have here”.
A new line combination on Saturday night of Adrian, MacLean and Coventry proved difficult for the Wolverines as they created a number of chances including with 2 seconds left in regulation when Adrian narrowly missed sending the game into extra time. Asked about the trio coach explained, “It’s 3 big bodies that are kind of power forward type players and they create space for each other, and they’re hard to play against. They controlled the play well and did good things. We’ll keep that unit together and keep moving forward”.
The game ended as just one more one goal loss on the season. Something the Bobcats have seen all too often in 2019/20. They continued their workhorse style of hockey and executed well aside from one bad bounce against and no good ones their own way.
The border city club will keep pushing forward starting this coming Wednesday when they will head North to Bonnyville to face the Pontiacs before playing host to a pair of games Friday and Saturday.
