RECAP: Bobcats Fall to Saints, Finish Weekend with One Point

The Lloydminster Bobcats finished a three-game road swing with a tough 3-1 loss to the Spruce Grove Saints on Sunday afternoon at the Grant Fuhr Arena.

After an evenly played forty minutes, the game remained scoreless heading into the third. The Saints struck with three quick goals in the first six minutes to take the lead that they never gave back. Zach Kaiser got the Bobcats on the board with his tenth of the year to make it 3-1 with just over five minutes left, but that's all the Cats would muster.

Goals from Conner Lukan, Jordan Thomas, and Josh Borynec paced the Saints to a 3-0 lead in the opening minutes of the third to take the reins in today's contest.

Jeremy Kelleway got the start for the Cats today, and turned away 29 of 32 shots for the visitors while Saints net minder Brandon Wells made 22 saves on 23 shorts.

Last night, the Bobcats were in Drayton Valley (game two of their three game long weekend trip) where they held a 2-1 lead halfway into the third.  Thunder forward Rhett Wilcox tied the game with 9:18 remaining and for the second time in the six-game season series between the two teams, they were headed for overtime tied at 2.

Eventually Drayton Valley would score the golden goal on a four-on-three powerplay at the 3:14 mark of the overtime period to win the game. Chasetan Braid and Zach Webb each had two points in the loss to Drayton, while forward Matt Jones picked up his fourth goal of the season.

Overall the Bobcats picked up just a single point this weekend from Saturday's overtime loss to Drayton Valley, following a 5-1 loss in Grande Prairie Friday night.

The Bobcats will hit the ice for practice this week in preparation for a home and home set against the Camrose Kodiaks this weekend, beginning Friday night at the Civic Centre.
