The Whitecourt Wolverines jumped ahead early and never looked back as they took a 7-3 victory over the Lloydminster Bobcats on Sunday afternoon at the Scott Safety Centre on Sunday afternoon.
Kobe Walker, Caden Benson, and Brady Barclay provided the goals for the Bobcats while Austin McGrath was given a tough task with 46 shots directed on goal by the Wolverines.
Whitecourt hit the scoreboard three times within an eight minute span in the first period as Ben Evanish, Eric Krienke, and Jaedon Leslie set the pace early for their team to take a 3-0 lead.
Less than two minutes after Leslie's tally, the Bobcats were able to respond as Kobe Walker drove the net and put the puck past Wolverines goaltender Sam-Jaxon Visscher to cut the lead to two. Brady Barclay picked up the lone assist on the play.
Trying to cut further into the lead, the Bobcats faced a stiff challenge late in the first as they found themselves down two players after a pair of high-sticking penalties, but came up big to kill off the 5-on-3 Wolverines power play. However, the second high-sticking penalty was a double minor and carried over into the second period, where Whitecourt struck in the opening minute on the man advantage as Justin Young found the back of the net to make it 4-1 for the home team.
The Bobcats struck back once again in the second period as Benson buried his third goal of the season on a power play to cut the Whitecourt lead in half at 4-2, which is how the second period ended.
In the third period, Whitecourt jumped ahead further as they added another two from Liam Motley and Rob Johnson to make it 6-2 before Barclay cut the lead to 6-3. Krienke would add his second of the night late in the period to finish off the game at 7-3.
The Bobcats will be back in action with another three game road swing this weekend starting Friday night in Brooks, followed by a Saturday night matchup in Canmore and a Sunday matinee in Calgary against the Mustangs.
