RECAP: Bobcats Win Big In Spruce Grove

The Bobcats got back on track Saturday evening in dramatic fashion, beating the AJHL's number one ranked team, the Spruce Grove Saints.

It would take an eventual shootout winner by Bobcats rookie Kobe Walker, but for the first time this season Lloydminster can add a tick to the win column.

Spruce Grove opened the scoring just four minutes and 22 seconds into the first period when forward Logan Ganie was able to sneak the puck past Bobcats goltender (and former teamate with triple A Midget Bobcats) Austin McGrath.

The Saints would hold a 1-0 lead for close to 40 minutes when Ganie again found the back of the net, putting Spruce Grove ahead by two with just over 16 minutes left in the game. Things finally turned around for the Cats when Kobe Walker scored his first goal of the season at the 8:22 mark of the third period. Four minutes later fellow Bobcats Rookie Zach Kaiser was able to tie the game at two, setting up what would eventually be a wild finish.

Down by a goal and three seconds away from the 12th loss of the season, Walker was able to snap the puck past Spruce Grove goaltender Connor Dochuk, getting his second goal of the night and forcing the game to an extra frame.

Neither team was able to break the deadlock in the 5 minute overtime, meaning a shootout would be needed to choose a winner.

Fittingly, it was Walker who would score for the Cats to seal their first win of the season. McGrath came up big, stopping all three Spruce Grove shooters. He made 34 saves on the night.
