RECAP: Saints Stymie Bobcats 4-1

Brandon Wells stymied the Lloydminster Bobcats with 30 saves on 31 shots as the Spruce Grove Saints took advantage of their opportunities for a 4-1 victory Sunday afternoon.

Despite outshooting the Saints 28-13 through two periods, the Bobcats found themselves down 3-0, and didn't break the shutout until the third.

Midway through the final frame, Zach Webb directed a backhand on goal from the high slot, fooling a screened Wells to cut the Saints lead to 3-1, but that's as close as they would get.

The Bobcats generated some great opportunities on the power play, but ultimately failed to convert on six opportunities on the man advantage. Conversely, the Cats held the Saints power play off the board until former Bobcats Eric Benshadle found his own rebound to score the final goal of the afternoon with 0:22 to play. The Saints were one for four on the power play overall.

The Bobcats still sit five points out of the final playoff spot in the Viterra AJHL North Division, and will host the Bonnyville Pontiacs on Wednesday night at the Civic Centre.
