RELEASE: Bobcats Sign Three ’98 Born Players

The Lloydminster Bobcats are excited to announce the signing of three 1998-born players for the 2016-17 season.

William Middleton, Evan Wood and Matthew Jones will all be joining the Bobcats after enjoying successful midget careers with their respective teams.

Head Coach and GM Gord Thibodeau had the following to say on the recent signings “We are very pleased to add three quality players to the Bobcats organization. These players were identified during the season by our scouting staff and we feel strongly that they will become impact players and leaders within our program.”

Middleton is coming to the Bobcats on the heels of a great season in the Manitoba AAA Hockey League. As part of the Eastman Selects, Middleton was able to bury 23 goals and pick up another 29 assists for 52 points in 44 regular season games. The Beausejour, Manitoba native finished sixth on the league's list of top point getters, helping the Selects to a first place finish in the regular season and an eventual appearance in the league Championship.

Wood is from Edmonton, Alberta where he has spent the last few seasons playing for the Maple Leaf Athletic Club. The 6'3'', 175 lb defenseman registered 6 points in 34 games while in Midget AAA last season and can move the puck north-south with a high level of efficiency. Wood will come into camp with some AJHL experience under his belt, as last season he suited up in three games for the Okotoks Oilers.

Jones is a 6'0'' winger out of Dinsmore, Saskatchewan who is no stranger to putting the puck in the back of the net. The talented scorer had 21 goals last season while in Swift Current playing for the Midget AAA Legionnaires and finished in the top-ten in league goal-scoring. Jones finished the 2015-16 campaign with 14 assists, 35 points and 24 penalty minutes.

“This is the first step in rebuilding from an incredible season that recently concluded with the 2016 RBC finals appearance. We look forward to announcing more player signings in the next few weeks,” added Thibodeau.
