Unable to break through in the first period, the Lloydminster Bobcats found themselves on the wrong end of a 6-2 score Wednesday night in Spruce Grove.
A hat-trick from Chris Van Os-Shaw and two goals from Cam Mitchell helped propel the Saints to their fifth victory of the season.
In the early stages of the contest the Bobcats took majority of the play to the home team.
At one point, Lloydminster was outshooting the Saints 9-4, but then momentum shifted quickly in the second half of the period.
Three goals just over five minutes apart for Spruce Grove game them a sudden 3-0 lead over the Bobcats. The first goal was off the stick of Van Os-Shaw, before Mitchell netted the next two.
In the middle frame, while on their second power-play opportunity of the game, the Bobcats cut into the Saints lead.
Bobcat’s captain Connor Odelein put home his first goal of the season to pull the visitors within two, 3-1.
The energy was short-lived, however. Just 56 seconds later, Van Os-Shaw restored the three goal lead with his second goal of the night.
Leading 4-1 after two periods of play, Van Os-Shaw completed the hat-trick just over a minute into the third as the Saints capitalized on the man-advantage.
Seth Fyten would also go on to find the back of the net for Spruce Grove, before Odelein tallied his second goal of the contest to round out the scoring.
After out-shooting the Saints 10-9 in the first period, the Bobcats were out-shot 31-15 the rest of the way.
The Saints finished 2-4 on the power-play, while the Bobcats went 1-2.
With the loss, Lloydminster fell to 2-6 on the season and will now prepare for a home-date with the Bonnyville Pontiacs on Friday. It will be the first of a five game home-stand for the Bobcats.
