It was a battle between two streaking teams tonight, as the undefeated Lloydminster Bobcats met up with the winless Grande Prairie Storm at the Centennial Civic Centre in Lloydminster.
From the opening faceoff it was all Bobcats, with the home side getting on the scoreboard just 2:39 into the game as Zac Giroux found a loose puck after a favourable bounce off of the end wall and put it home for his third goal of the year.
Although that was all the goals the Bobcats would muster in the first frame, it wasn't for lack of chances as the 'Cats had three powerplay opportunities, and the shot tally read 18-3 after one.
The Bobcats kept coming in the second period, putting three more goals on the board from Kevin Darrar, Taylor Lotoski, and Taylor Allan.
In the third, it was more of the same early on as Allan notched his second of the game 8:53 into the final frame.
With Alex Leclerc given the night off, Pierce Diamond got the start between the pipes. Although he wasn't tested often, he kept a blank slate until midway through the third period when the Storm were able to take advantage of a hop off the end boards, similar to Giroux's goal in the first period, as Blake Bosch busted Diamond's shutout bid. That was the end of the scoring for the night, as the Bobcats would skate to a 5-1 victory.
Lloydminster will conclude a four game homestand on Tuesday night when the Sherwood Park Crusaders come to town.
