VIDEO: Cats Complete Weekend Sweep with 7-2 Victory

Down 5-on-3 early in the second period, the Lloydminster Bobcats were able to strike twice to build a 4-0 lead en route to a 7-2 victory over Drayton Valley on Saturday night at the Centennial Civic Centre.

Carrying a 2-0 lead on PP goals from Nick Quillan and Troy Van Tetering, the Cats extended it to 3-0 as Zac Giroux took advantage of a Thunder mistake, leading to a breakaway before he beat Thunder goaltender Matt Berlin with a 5-on-3 shorthanded goal. Moments later, defenceman Alex Pernitsky looked to be off to the races on a breakaway still down 5-on-3 when he was tripped up by a Thunder defenceman. Pernitsky was awarded a penalty shot and made a beautiful move past Berlin to make it 4-0. Noah Bauld got in on the action shortly afterwards as he knocked in a rebound to make it 5-0 in favour of the Bobcats.

The Thunder grabbed back some momentum as a pair of defensive lapses by the Bobcats led to two goals, and the teams headed into the third period with a 5-2 margin.

In the third, the Bobcats got back on the gas pedal and goals from Kevin Darrar and Kris Spriggs extended the lead to 7-2, which was how it stood when the dust settled.

The Bobcats struck twice on five power play opportunities tonight, and added another pair while shorthanded (one of which was a penalty shot). For the Thunder, they came up empty on four man advantage situations.
