Seeking a fourth straight road victory, the Lloydminster Bobcats came up short Friday night in Whitecourt.
Wrapping up the six game season series with the Wolverines, the Bobcats generated a late goal but fell 3-1.
The home-team was able to get on the board first with exactly five minutes remaining in the opening period. After scoring his first career hat-trick against Bonnyville on Tuesday, Mackenzie Harden beat Bobcat’s goalie Pierce Diamond to put Whitecourt up 1-0 after one period.
In the second frame, the Wolverines extended their advantage to 2-0 on a goal by Ben Evanish.
Spencer Bast then found the back of the net for Whitecourt early in the third to make it 3-0.
The Bobcats, however, wouldn’t go away.
After continuing to press on a power-play, Reid Irwin fired a shot which deflected past Wolverine’s goalie Tye Morin. The goal marked the 8th straight game in which the Cats have netted a goal on the man-advantage.
However, it would also mark as close as Lloydmisnter would get in the contest.
Diamond went on to make 27 saves on 30 shots for Lloyd, while Morin turned aside 21 of the 22 shots he faced.
The Cats finished the game 1 for 3 on the power-play with Whitecourt going 0 for 3.
Next up for Lloydminster is a trip to Spruce Grove on Saturday to battle the Saints.
