A pair of first period goals proved to be too much to overcome Wednesday at the Civic Centre for the Lloydminster Bobcats.
Playing host to the Bonnyville Pontiacs, the Yaks scored twice in the first half of the opening frame, and shut down the Cats the rest of the way, as Bonnyville rolled to a 3-0 win.
The loss is Lloydminster’s third straight, and on the heels of a tough weekend down south in which they were hoping to bounce back from.
In the first period it was Daine Dubois who put Bonnyville on the board just over three minutes into the game.
Then just over three minutes later Trey Thomas extending the Pontiacs lead to 2-0.
After an initial surge to try and swing momentum in their favour, the Bobcats were unable to capitalize on any chances during the second period, and the Yaks were.
Former Olds Grizzly Cayden Kraus found the back of the net at the 13:06 mark of the middle frame putting Bonnyville up 3-0.
The visitors went on to milk the rest of the clock and skated away with a 3-0 victory. Colby Muise 22 saves for Bonnyville to earn the shutout, while Cale Elder made 31 saves in the loss for Lloydminster.
The Pontiacs finished 0 for 6 on the power-play, with the Bobcats going 0 for 2.
The road ahead doesn't get any easier for the Bobcats as they head to Sherwood Park on Friday to face the Crusaders.
