Brown and Marrocco Get Better of Bobcats

The Lloydminster Bobcats had no answer for Derek Brown and PJ Marrocco Saturday night at the Civic Centre, as the Bonnyville Pontiacs doubled-up the ‘Cats 6-3.

Brown and Marrocco combined for 10 points (five each) to cruise past Lloydminster.

It all got rolling for the two twenty year olds not quite four minutes into the game, when Brown set up Marrocco putting the visitors up 1-0.

Just over three minutes later, Brendan Morrow scored his first goal of the season to make it 2-0.

It appeared the score may remain that way heading into the first intermission, but Cole Johnson had other ideas.

The first year Bobcat got Lloydminster on the board with just 52 seconds remaining in the opening frame.

Just over six minutes into the second period, Brock Sottile scored his second goal in as many games to get the Bobcats back on even ground, 2-2.

Unfortunately, a power-play goal for Bonnyville a minute and half later by Derek Brown re-stored the ‘Yaks lead.

Then, in the late stages on the middle frame, Brown found himself in alone on a short-handed breakaway and beat Bobcats goalie Nicholas Sanders to put Bonnyville up 4-2 after two.

After Marrocco made it 5-2 ‘Yaks early in the third, Zach Kaiser tipped home a Zach Webb pass on the power-play to trim the lead to 5-3.

Marrocco would score his second of the period after the Bobcats pulled their goalie though to round out the scoring.

Bonnyville went on to out-shoot Lloydminster 34-28.

The ‘Cats went 1 for 5 on the power-play, while the ‘Yaks finished 1 for 4.

The Bobcats will resume their schedule Sunday afternoon went they host the Sherwood Park Crusaders.
