Goertzen Adds Director of Goalie Development

Lloydminster, AB – The Lloydminster Bobcats have promoted Sheldon Goertzen to Director of Goalie Development and will continue as the Bobcats Goalie Coach. Goertzen will enter his 7th season with the Bobcats after joining the organization in the spring of 2019.

Goertzen has an impressive coaching career where he holds positions with the Hockey Canada’s Women’s Development Program, University of Saskatchewan Women’s Program, and multiple elite level teams and goalies. During his 6 years with the Bobcats organization all the goalies have moved on to the next level and found continued success.

“I would like to extend my gratitude to the Bobcat Organization for entrusting me with the responsibility of developing their goaltenders for the past 6 years. It is a thrilling opportunity to continue collaborating with the Elite Program and fostering the growth of aspiring goaltenders within the Lloydminster community” commented Goertzen.

Goertzen, who grew up in the Border City travels weekly to work with both the Bobcats and Elite programs. “Sheldon has done amazing working in our organization and community; he puts his heart and soul into hockey at all levels and growing. You know when he is in town because he is always at the rink and watching the goalies to understand them fully and being able to connect with them on all levels. The work doesn’t stop when he is not at the rink, he is doing video and communicating with them to develop both their game on the ice and their mental side” added Bobcats General Manager Nigel Dube. “He defines what it means to be a Bobcats.”

Goertzen is not only growing the game for athletes but coaches as well. The Bobcats have also added Cassidy McEwen to the goaltending staff, “As my role has evolved, I have had the privilege of mentoring an exceptional coach, Cassidy Mcewen. Her dedication, expertise and experience make her a role model who consistently leaves a lasting impact on the athletes she works with. We are eager to advance our efforts in elevating goaltender development and are particularly excited to get on the ice at the Bobcats’ new home arena this season” added Goertzen.

“If you are at a rink in Lloydminster, you’re likely going to see Sheldon or Cassidy there watching and working with goalies, reality you will probably see both” finished Dube.
