Noah Bauld Commits to Cornell University

The Lloydminster Bobcats are pleased to announce that rookie forward Noah Bauld has committed to Cornell University of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).

“I am very honoured to be given the opportunity to play at a school with such excellent athletic and academic programs,” said Bauld. “Playing Division I hockey has been a huge goal for me ever since I made the decision to attend prep school, and to make a commitment to play at Cornell University is a dream come true.”

Bauld had an immediate impact upon arrival in Lloydminster, leading the Bobcats with six goals in exhibition play. The 18 year-old missed the ‘Cats first two regular season games with flu-like symptoms, but made a statement upon returning to the lineup, scoring two goals versus the Whitecourt Wolverines in his debut. The speedy forward improved on that performance the following week with two goals and one assist against the Sherwood Park Crusaders in his third game of the season. To date, Bauld has registered six goals and two assists for eight points in ten AJHL regular season games.

“From the start, Noah showed great commitment to being the best student-athlete he could be,” said Bobcats Head Coach and General Manager Gord Thibodeau. “His goal coming here was to secure an NCAA Division I opportunity, and we’re very happy and thankful that he was able to do that with the Lloydminster Bobcats organization. We would like to congratulate him and his family on this great achievement.”

Bauld has been a welcome addition to the Bobcats this season, and will be an important member of the team as the 2016 RBC Cup in Lloydminster draws nearer.

Cornell University is one of eight Ivy League schools across the Northeastern United States, a group known for academic excellence and selectivity in admissions. The Big Red hockey team competes in the ECAC Hockey conference, along with the other five Ivy League programs that have an ice hockey program and six other schools. Notable Cornell hockey alumni include Ken Dryden, Joe Nieuwendyk, Kent Manderville, and Matt Moulson.

Including Bauld, the 2015-16 Bobcats now boast eight players who have already committed to NCAA programs. They are:

Noah Bauld (Cornell University), Kevin Darrar (Holy Cross), Cole Josefchak (Colorado College), Christian Lloyd (Sacred Heart), Alex Pernitsky (Colorado College), Nick Quillan (Colgate University), Evan Tschumi (Colgate University), and Troy Van Tetering (University of Alaska-Fairbanks).

The Bobcats have now committed 27 players to College or University programs since the 2010-11 season, providing graduating players with opportunities to further pursue their athletic and academic careers.
