After winning their home opener Friday night over the Bonnyville Pontiacs, the Lloydminster Bobcats were unable to make it two wins in a row when they visited Bonnyville on Saturday.
Pontiacs goalie Sandro Silvestre stopped all 24 Bobcat’s shots as the Pontiacs shut-out Lloydminster 4-0.
Derek Brown opened the scoring just over seven minutes into the opening frame when he put home a loose puck past Bobcats goalie Reece Klassen, who was making his second straight start to begin the season.
Then after Andrew Liwiski hit a post for Lloydminster, the Pontiacs quickly spun momentum back in their favour when Joel Ray beat Klassen with a sharp-angled shot to give Bonnyville a 2-0 lead after one period.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the second frame but the Pontiacs would go on to extend their lead in the third.
A pair of power-play goals, one from Brandon Whistle and one from Derek Brown (his second of the game), put the contest out of reach for the Bobcats.
Lloydminster had their chances throughout the night, but were never able to convert.
The Bobcats had eight power-play opportunities and finished 0-8.
In goal, Klassen made 31 saves for Lloydminster and denied a penalty shot, as Bonnyville went on to outshoot the Bobcats 35-24.
Now 1-1 on the season, the Bobcats will return to the Civic Centre Wednesday night when they host the Grand Prairie Storm.
Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30pm with our broadcast beginning at 7:15pm on Real Country 95.9.
